As I ran the brush through my mother’s hair, a final touch in the last moments of seeing her physical form, honor washed over me in the process of cleansing her body for the last time. This woman who bathed me, who raised me, who bathed my children laid totally at peace having completed the triumph of her last breath.

I noticed many things about who she was in those moments, but what surprised me was how much I noticed about who I am. I am an end of life doula. I came to this realization naturally and honestly, lucky to have had a full nursing career behind me to hold me up in the spaces and provide me the expertise and experiencee to lend a hand, but more so the heart I have for this incredible transition.

The way I have been able to tend to people has prepared me to offer a full range of end of life services that center and honor the one who is at the end of life and also extends to the family who will keep on going. My hope and my charge is to create a space for everyone involved to not only make it through this experience, but to look back on it with the knowing that they all lived well through it, seeing their loved one to The Other Side of Sunset.
