Michelle Churchman

I’m Michelle, the owner and solo practitioner of Shoji Bridge, Departure Doula. I’m a planning care consultant, elder care and end of life doula. I offer non-medical holistic care for people who are approaching or preparing for end of life and their families, caregivers and loved ones. I also offer grief companionship and am a certified laughing yoga instructor. I’m passionate about advocacy, education and support of and for people who are ill, disabled, aging, dying and grieving in our society.
I had cancer as a teen and my mother died of a brain tumor in 2019. The fact that we hadn’t dealt with the eventuality and inevitability of her death even after my brush with it decades earlier lead to me becoming a departure doula in 2020.
I’m 55, and my mission is to help my fellow GenXers make their plans and live their lives more fully today.
I live in New Albany, IN, a suburb of Louisville, KY. I am married and have a rescued former racing greyhound that both keeps me young and ages me depending on the hour of the day! 😀
I’m very much a nerd. My hobbies include reading, board and RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons, some writing, of which I’m trying to do more. I prefer smaller gatherings with close friends although I’m pretty extroverted as a general rule. I’m obsessed with Halloween.
I have a master’s degree and several certifications.
